When is the running of the Bulls?

Pamplona bull run takes place at 8am every morning from 7th to 14th July. Runners must be in the running area by 7.30am. The actual run stretches from the corral at Santo Domingo where the bulls are kept, to the bullring where they will fight that same afternoon. It is a 0.5 mile (800 metre) course through the small cobblestone streets of Pamplona and takes aproximately 3 – 4 minutes to complete. The streets through the old town which make up the bull run are walled off so the bulls can’t escape. Each day 1500 to 3500 people run the route as well as six fighting bulls and two herds of bullocks. Over 1 million people attend the festival each year.

At the end of the run in the arena, young cows with wrapped horns are released one by one among the crowd, and toss the participants to the general amusement of the crowd.

What To Wear For The Festival?

Head to toe in white with a red scarf and red sash. The scarf should only be worn after the festivals opening ceremony, held every year at 12 p.m. on July 6th. Everyone wears white and red during the entire fiesta. If you decide not to dress up you’ll probably find that you the only one.

Is It Dangerous?

Yes the event is dangerous, which is the reason for the high adrenaline rush your experience while running. Since 1922, 15 people have been killed during the event, most recently on 10 July 2009. Every year between 200 and 300 people are injured during the run although most injuries are scrapes and bruses due to falls and are not serious.
